Privacy Policy

Effective June 2026 · Duane is published by Boot Canyon Advisory LLC.

The short version The Duane app keeps almost everything on your device. There are no accounts to create, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs in the app, and we don't sell your data. Your location is used on your phone to find markers nearby — it isn't stored on our servers or shared with anyone. Our website (heyduane.com) uses Google Analytics to understand general traffic, as described below.

Location

Duane uses your location to find Texas historical markers near you and to know when you're approaching one while driving. This happens on your device. We do not store your location on our servers, build a history of where you've been, or share it with third parties. You can turn location off at any time in iOS Settings — the rest of the app (browsing the map and tags) still works.

What's stored on your device

The stories you've heard, the stops you've saved, and your "Tune Duane" preferences (voice, story style, and similar) are stored only on your iPhone. We can't see them. Deleting the app, or using Reset all progress in Settings, removes them.

Audio narration

Duane's narrations stream from our content delivery network. A request includes the marker's ID and the standard technical information that accompanies any internet request (such as your device's IP address, which our hosting providers may log briefly for security and reliability). These requests do not include your name, an account, or any identifier that ties the request to you. Audio you've heard may be cached on your device so it can play back offline.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Duane may let you know about a story nearby or a "this day in Texas history" marker. These alerts are generated on your device and don't send personal information to us. You can turn notifications off any time in iOS Settings.

The website and early-access list

If you sign up for early access on heyduane.com, we store the email address you provide (with an email service provider) so we can send you launch updates. We don't use it for anything else, and you can unsubscribe from any message.

Website analytics

Our website, heyduane.com, uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use the site — which pages are popular and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects standard usage data such as pages viewed, approximate (city-level) location derived from your IP address, and device and browser type. We use this only in aggregate to improve the site, and we have turned off sharing your data with Google for advertising purposes. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or your browser's privacy controls. This applies to the website only — the Duane app itself contains no analytics or tracking.

No tracking or advertising in the app

The Duane app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We don't sell or rent personal information. (Our website uses Google Analytics as described above.)

Children

Duane is a general-audience app and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
