Here's how the official marker tells it, and I'll do my best to do it justice. Now, out here in El Paso County, there is a place that has been holdin' the stories of the land since 1880. The Bailey Cemetery.

Established that year, quietly, the way these things tend to happen on the Texas frontier, one marker at a time, one name at a time. It has stood through the decades, through the dust and the desert wind, through everything El Paso has seen come and go. And in 2012, the state of Texas recognized what time had already proven, designating it a Historic Texas Cemetery.

Some places earn their standing not through fanfare, but through endurance. The Bailey Cemetery has been doing exactly that since 1880.
