Duane's take
The official marker's the word on this one, and here's how I tell it. Now, out here in Gonzales County, the land holds things a long time. Longer than most folks reckon.
And one of the things it's been holding, since 1873, is the Bunting Family Cemetery. That's right, eighteen seventy-three. Think about what that year means in Texas, and then think about a family choosing a piece of ground, saying, this is where we lay our own to rest, and meaning it to last.
That's not a small thing. That's a declaration. The Bunting Family Cemetery has been keepin' that promise ever since, quietly, the way cemeteries do.
And in 2004, the state of Texas made it official, designating it a Historic Texas Cemetery. The ground remembers. It always does.
