Live Oak County, Texas

Duane's take

Here's my telling of what the official marker has to say about the Charter Oak. Now, every good story needs a gathering place, and Live Oak County found theirs early. The year was 1856, and a county was coming together, right here, right at this very spot.

The first officers were elected, the business of organizing a brand new county was carried out, and history quietly took root. But here's the thing about this place. It didn't stop there.

Long after the votes were counted and the officers took their posts, people kept coming back. For picnics. For horse races.

For school programs. Generation after generation finding their way to the same ground where Live Oak County got its start. Some places earn their meaning once.

This one kept earning it.
