Here's how the official marker tells it, and I'll do my best to do it justice. Now, out here in Hood County, there's a place that's been keepin' its quiet vigil since 1877. Friendship Cemetery.

Just the name alone carries something, doesn't it. Not a grand name, not a boastful name. Friendship.

Somebody, way back when, looked at this piece of ground and chose that word above all others. The cemetery was established in 1877, and it has been holding that name, and holding its ground, ever since. Recognized as a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2012, which means folks today have made it official what time already knew.

Some places earn their keeping. Friendship Cemetery is one of them.
