Duane's take

Here's my telling of what the official marker has to say about this place. Now, some stories take a good long while to unspool, and some come at you short and sure, like a hawk out of a clear sky. The Hammer-McFaddin-Harris Cemetery is the second kind.

It was established in 1851, which means somebody, somewhere in Harris County, was already thinking about the long haul, already setting aside ground for those who'd come to the end of their road. That ground kept its purpose, kept its silence, kept its stories, all the way to 2010, when it was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery. Not every place earns a name like that, and not every patch of earth holds on that long.

But this one did.
