Duane's take

Here's how the official marker tells it, and I'll do my best to do it justice. Harry Frederick Moore. Born December 15, 1854.

Passed April 20, 1926. Now, that's a name you might not hear hollered from a rooftop, but in Crockett, Texas, in the world of banking and community, that name carried weight. Real weight.

Let's go back to Ohio, where this story begins. That's where Harry F. Moore cut his teeth in banking, and that's where, in 1885, he married Anna Laura May.

A man with a plan and a partner to match. Then came the moves. Galveston in 1890.

Crockett in 1891. Two towns in two years, and he wasn't just passin' through. When Harry Moore arrived somewhere, he arrived with intention.

In Crockett, he helped organize the First National Bank. Now think about that for a moment. Organizing a bank is not a small undertaking.

That takes trust, that takes community, that takes someone who knows what they're doing and can convince others they do too. And then, in 1904, Harry Moore became president of that First National Bank. Twenty-two years he served in that role.

Twenty-two years. That's not a tenure, that's a legacy being built one day at a time. He set an example for his successors, and here's the part that really lands, two of those successors were his own sons.

He wasn't just building a bank. He was building something to hand down. And he didn't stop there.

He organized banks in nearby towns too, spreading that same steady hand across the region. All while being a prominent member of his community, an active church member, and a Mason. Harry Frederick Moore didn't just pass through this part of Texas.

He planted himself in it, grew something lasting, and made sure it would keep growin' long after he was gone.
