Here's my telling of what the official marker has to say, and I'll warn you right now, it's gonna require you to lean in close. McGinnis Cemetery, Liberty County. Established 1861.

Now, that single year carries a weight all its own. Eighteen sixty-one. You know what else was happening in 1861.

And somewhere in Liberty County, somebody set aside a piece of ground, gave it a name, and said: this is where we remember. The McGinnis Cemetery has been keeping that quiet vigil ever since, and in 2018 it was recognized as a Historic Texas Cemetery. Some stories don't need a lot of words.

The ground says enough.
