Duane's take

Here's my telling of what the official marker has to say, and I'll be honest with you, sometimes the whole story fits in just a few words. Newlin Cemetery, out here in Hall County. Established in 1904.

Now, a cemetery is never just a patch of ground. It's a keeping place, a place where a community decided, right here, this matters, these people matter, and we are going to remember them. Somebody staked that claim in 1904, and the names and the years and the stories buried there have been holding steady ever since.

And in 2009, Newlin Cemetery was recognized as a Historic Texas Cemetery, which is just the official world catchin' up to what the ground already knew.
