Duane's take
The official marker tells it this way, and I'm gonna give it to you straight from the record. Out here in Collin County, there's a piece of ground that's been holdin' its quiet for a long time. Old Union Cemetery.
Established in 1877. That's the whole of what the stone says, and sometimes that's enough. Think about what 1877 means out on the Texas prairie.
The ground was raw, the communities were young, and somebody, some group of somebodies, looked at a stretch of earth and said: this is where we put our own. They gave it a name that speaks to comin' together. Union.
And then they dug in, and they kept on. Nearly a century and a half later, that cemetery earned its designation as a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2016. The land remembered.
And now, so do you.
