Duane's take

The official marker tells it like this, and I'm just here to pass it along. Way out in Angelina County, there's a church with some deep roots. Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

And when I say deep, I mean ten-members-and-a-dream deep. Back in 1872, ten members walked out of Lambert's Chapel and organized something new. Something of their own.

The first pastor they called was J. S. Lambert, and a man named David Allbritton took on the role of clerk.

Ten people. That's it. That's where it started.

Now here's where the story gets bigger than just one congregation. Three years after those ten souls got together, Pine Grove became the birthplace of something larger. In 1875, the Angelina Missionary Baptist Association was founded right there on those grounds.

A whole association, grown from ten members and a willing piece of land. And then there were the pastors who stayed. Not just passing through, not just warming the pulpit for a season.

C. B. George served that church for twenty-five years.

Twenty-five. And O. P.

Meadows put in fifteen years of his own. The marker calls them veteran pastors, and that word, veteran, it earns its keep here. Ten members in 1872.

The seed of an entire association by 1875. And pastors who gave the better part of their working lives to one place, one people. Some churches get famous.

Pine Grove got faithful. And out in Angelina County, that turns out to be more than enough.
