Duane's take

Here's how the official marker tells it, in my own words. Now, Corsicana has seen its share of bold ventures, but few planted roots quite like this one. Back in 1917, four men put their names to something.

B. B. Munsey, G.

C. Dunn, P. D.

Williams, and E. L. Dupuy organized the State National Bank, and they set it up just off the southwest corner of Collin and Beaton streets.

Not exactly the most glamorous address you've ever heard, but that's where it all began. Munsey himself stepped in as the institution's first president, and for a while, that was the shape of things. Then came 1926, and with it, two changes worth noting.

Isaac N. Cerf, a prominent Corsicana businessman and civic leader, succeeded Munsey at the helm. And the bank, as if it needed a fresh start to match its fresh leadership, moved to this very site that same year.

Now, if you think that's enough story for one bank, well, hold on. 1933 rolls around, and the accounts and loans of First State Bank of Corsicana get merged right in with those of State National Bank. Two institutions becoming one, in a year when a lot of banks weren't becoming anything at all. Over the years since, the bank has been instrumental in the growth of Corsicana and the surrounding areas.

Started by four names on a piece of paper in 1917, and it just kept going.
