Duane's take
Here's my tellin' of what the official marker has to say about this place. Now, some stories come to you in volumes, and some come to you in just a handful of words. The Coshatte Cemetery is the second kind, and friend, that doesn't make it any less worth your time.
What you've got here is a cemetery, established in 1915, sittin' in Austin County, Texas. That's it. That's what the record gives us.
A place where somebody, in 1915, decided this ground was the right ground. Where people would be laid to rest, remembered, kept. And that decision has held.
It held long enough that in 2011, this cemetery was recognized as a Historic Texas Cemetery. Not every place earns that. The ones that do tend to be the ones that mattered to real people, quietly, across a long stretch of time.
The Coshatte Cemetery has been doin' that work since 1915, and the land ain't forgot it.
