Duane's take
Here's how the official marker tells it, and here's how I'll pass it along to you. Now, some stories you come across out here on the Texas road have volumes to say. Names, battles, dates stretching back generations.
And then there are stories that say everything they need to say in just a handful of words. The El Rancho Granjeno Vasquez Cemetery, out in Cameron County, is one of those. Established in 1870.
That's the whole timeline right there, and friend, don't let the brevity fool you. Eighteen seventy. Think on that for a second.
The ground was chosen, and it was given a purpose, and people trusted it with their most precious and permanent thing. And it has held that trust ever since. Designated a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2015, which is the state of Texas putting its name to what the land already knew.
Some places earn their recognition quiet and slow, the way roots grow. The El Rancho Granjeno Vasquez Cemetery earned it the only way that really counts. By enduring.
