Duane's take
Here's how the official marker tells it, and here's how I'm gonna tell it to you. Now, Marion County holds a lot of quiet ground, and some of that ground has been holdin' its secrets longer than most folks can remember. The Frith-Jones Cemetery.
Established 1876. That's the whole of what the record gives us, and sometimes, that's enough. A name, a year, and a patch of Texas earth that someone decided, back in eighteen seventy-six, was worth settin' aside.
Worth keepin'. Whatever brought the Frith family and the Jones family together in that name, whatever hands cleared that ground and marked those first graves, the land remembers even when the paperwork doesn't say. By 2006, the state of Texas looked at that cemetery and called it what it is: a Historic Texas Cemetery.
Not a footnote. Not a curiosity. A place that earned its designation by simply enduring, by holding on through every dry summer and wet winter Marion County could throw at it, from 1876 on forward.
Some stories are told in volumes. This one is told in a name, a year, and ground that refused to be forgotten.
