Duane's take

Here's my telling of what the official marker has to say about this one. Now, some stories come to you in a flood, names and dates and deeds pouring out faster than you can take them in. And then some stories come to you quiet, the way a country cemetery sits at the edge of a field, patient and still, saying just enough.

The McMillen Cemetery is one of the quiet ones. Established in 1901, it has been keeping its watch out here in Collin County for well over a century now. No fanfare, no long explanation.

Just a name, a date, and the dignity of ground that has meant something to the people who placed their loved ones in it. In 2010, that meaning was recognized officially, when the McMillen Cemetery was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery. Sometimes the most enduring stories don't need many words.

This piece of land has been telling its own story since 1901, one season at a time.
