Duane's take
Here's my tellin' of what the official marker has to say about this place. Now, out here in Limestone County, there's a patch of ground that's been holdin' its peace since around 1891. Personville Cemetery, they call it.
Established circa 1891, which is the marker's polite way of sayin' folks were layin' their loved ones to rest here right about the time the century was still young and Texas was still workin' out who she wanted to be. Not much fanfare in those two words, circa 1891. Just a quiet acknowledgment that the exact date, like so many things from that era, got swallowed up by time.
What didn't get swallowed up is the cemetery itself. Still there. Still keepin' watch.
And in 2002, it was recognized as a Historic Texas Cemetery, which is the state's way of sayin' this ground matters, these people mattered, and somebody ought to remember that. Some stories fit neatly into a few words. Personville Cemetery is one of them.
Small in inscription, but long in years.
