Duane's take
The way the marker tells it, here's the story of Reeves County. Formed from Pecos County, created on April 14, 1883, and then organized on November 4, 1884. Now, a county doesn't just appear out of nowhere, and this one carries a name worth knowin'.
It was named in honor of George Robertson Reeves, born in 1826, died in 1882. A colonel in the Confederate army. A member of the Texas Legislature.
A man whose name, by the looks of things, carried enough weight to put it on the map, literally. And the county seat? That's Pecos, sittin' right there at the heart of it all.
Short story, maybe, but out here in West Texas, the land does most of the talkin'.
