Duane's take
Here's how the marker tells it, and I'll do my best to honor every word. Camp Ford. The name sits right there in Smith County, quiet now, but once it held a story that wasn't quiet at all.
During the Civil War, this was a stockade prison, and the men held inside weren't outlaws or desperados. They were federal soldiers. That's the whole of what the marker gives us, and sometimes the whole of a thing is enough to make you stop and think.
A stockade. Federal soldiers. The Civil War.
Three facts, and every one of them carries weight. You don't need much more than that to feel it.
